I. Business Registration Situation in the First 3 Months of 2024
1. Enterprises Joining and Re-joining the Market
The number of enterprises joining and re-joining the market in the first 3 months of 2024 reached 59,848 enterprises, an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period in 2023.
1.1. Newly Established Enterprises
The number of newly established enterprises in the first 3 months of 2024 was 36,244 enterprises, up 6.9% compared to the same period in 2023. The registered capital for establishment in the first 3 months of 2024 reached 332,175 billion VND, an increase of 7.0% compared to the same period in 2023.
The total registered capital added to the economy in the first 3 months of 2024 was 724,507 billion VND (a decrease of 4.3% compared to the same period in 2023), of which the registered capital of newly established enterprises was 332,175 billion VND (an increase of 7.0% compared to the same period in 2023). There were 9,761 active enterprises registering for capital increase in the first 3 months of 2024 (a decrease of 8.1% compared to the same period in 2023), with the additional registered capital of these enterprises reaching 392,332 billion VND (a decrease of 12.1% compared to the same period in 2023). The average registered capital per enterprise in the first 3 months of 2024 reached 9.2 billion VND, up 0.1% compared to the same period in 2023.
Out of 17 sectors, 11 recorded an increase in the number of newly established enterprises compared to the same period in 2023, specifically: Warehousing and Storage (up 24.4%); Mining (up 17.7%); Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation (up 16.7%); Wholesale and Retail; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles (up 13.0%); Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (up 10.0%); Manufacturing; Distribution of Electricity, Gas, Water (up 5.3%); Construction (up 4.4%); Information and Communications (up 2.3%); Other Service Activities (up 0.9%).
The remaining sectors witnessed a decrease in the number of newly established enterprises compared to the same period in 2023: Real Estate Business (down 2.0%); Employment Services; Tourism; Rental of Machinery, Equipment, and Other Support Services (down 3.3%); Science, Technology; Consulting Services, Design; Advertising and Other Professional Activities (down 4.6%); Finance, Banking, and Insurance (down 5.6%); Health and Social Assistance Activities (down 5.7%); Accommodation and Food Service Activities (down 11.7%)…
Most newly established enterprises have small-scale operations (from 0 – 10 billion VND) with 33,337 enterprises (accounting for 92.0%, up 6.9% compared to the same period in 2023), mainly in the Service sector with 27,179 enterprises, accounting for 75.0% of the total newly established enterprises, up 6.9% compared to the previous year. The Industry and Construction sector had 8,702 new entrants, accounting for 24.0% of the total newly established enterprises, up 6.8% compared to the same period in 2023. The Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sector recorded 363 new enterprises, accounting for 1.0% of the total newly established enterprises, up 10.0% compared to the same period last year.
All 6 regions across the country saw an increase in the number of registered enterprises compared to the same period in 2023: Northern Midlands and Mountains (2,032 enterprises, up 23.0%); Southeast (15,413 enterprises, up 10.4%); Mekong Delta (2,739 enterprises, up 7.9%); Central Highlands (977 enterprises, up 7.5%); Red River Delta (10,868 enterprises, up 1.9%) and North Central Coast and Central Coast (4,215 enterprises, up 0.7%).
The total number of employees registered by newly established enterprises in the first 3 months of 2024 was 258,750, up 21.9% compared to the same period in 2023.
1.2. Enterprises Returning to Operation
The number of enterprises returning to operation in the first 3 months of 2024 was 23,604 enterprises, up 2.4% compared to the same period in 2023.
The number of enterprises returning to operation increased in 8 out of 17 sectors, specifically: Manufacturing; Distribution of Electricity, Gas, Water (780 enterprises, up 104.2%); Real Estate Business (1,035 enterprises, up 25.8%); Information and Communications (564 enterprises, up 12.1%); Other Service Activities (724 enterprises, up 11.7%); Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (341 enterprises, up 7.9%); Manufacturing; Processing Industry (2,718 enterprises, up 6.3%); Health and Social Assistance Activities (119 enterprises, up 6.3%); Science, Technology; Consulting Services, Design; Advertising and Other Professional Activities (1,832 enterprises, up 4.9%).
The remaining sectors witnessed a decrease in the number of enterprises returning to operation, specifically: Construction (2,918 enterprises, down 1.2%); Wholesale and Retail; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles (7,977 enterprises, down 1.5%); Warehousing and Storage (1,105 enterprises, down 1.5%); Accommodation and Food Service Activities (1,179 enterprises, down 4.6%); Education and Training (611 enterprises, down 8.3%); Employment Services; Tourism; Rental of Machinery, Equipment, and Other Support Services (1,162 enterprises, down 8.7%); Finance, Banking, and Insurance (206 enterprises, down 8.8%); Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation (190 enterprises, down 10.0%); Mining (143 enterprises, down 15.4%).
2. Business Withdrawal from the Market
In the first 3 months of 2024, there were 73,978 enterprises withdrawing from the market, up 22.8% compared to the same period in 2023, of which the majority were enterprises choosing to temporarily suspend business activities in the short term (accounting for 72.1%), specifically:
- The number of enterprises temporarily suspending business activities was 53,365 enterprises, up 24.5% compared to the same period in 2023. The majority of enterprises temporarily suspending business activities in the first 3 months of 2024 had a short operating period, under 5 years, with 23,879 enterprises (accounting for 44.7%); primarily focusing on small-scale operations (below 10 billion VND) with 47,834 enterprises (accounting for 89.6%, up 24.1% compared to the same period in 2023).
- The number of enterprises waiting for dissolution procedures was 15,530 enterprises, up 21.7% compared to the same period in 2023. Enterprises waiting for dissolution procedures mainly operated on a small scale, with less than 10 billion VND in capital, with 13,719 enterprises (accounting for 88.3%, up 20.2% compared to the same period in 2023).
- The number of dissolved enterprises was 5,083 enterprises, up 10.1% compared to the same period in 2023. Among them, 11 out of 17 main business sectors witnessed an increase in the number of dissolved enterprises compared to the same period in 2023. The majority of dissolved enterprises in the first 3 months of 2024 had a short operating period (under 5 years) with 3,686 enterprises (accounting for 72.5%), primarily focusing on small-scale operations (0 – 10 billion VND) with 4,460 enterprises (accounting for 87.7%, up 12.3% compared to the same period in 2023).
II. Business Registration Situation in March 2024
1. Enterprises Joining and Re-joining the Market
In March 2024, there were 14,116 newly registered enterprises with a registered capital of 113,462 billion VND, down 0.7% in terms of the number of enterprises and down 22.1% in terms of registered capital compared to the same period in 2023.
In March 2024, 4 out of 6 regions across the country saw an increase in the number of registered enterprises compared to the same period in 2023: Northern Midlands and Mountains (833 enterprises, up 22.3%); North Central Coast and Central Coast (1,783 enterprises, up 1.8%); Southeast (5,900 enterprises, up 1.5%); Mekong Delta (1,062 enterprises, up 7.2%). The other regions recorded a decrease in the number of registered enterprises compared to the same period in 2023: Red River Delta (4,190 enterprises, down 8.6%); Central Highlands (348 enterprises, down 13.9%).
The number of employees registered by newly established enterprises in March 2024 was 104,423, up 12.7% compared to the same period in 2023.
In March 2024, there were 3,020 enterprises returning to operation, down 52.0% compared to the same period in 2023.
2. Business Withdrawal from the Market
In March 2024, there were 10,531 enterprises withdrawing from the market nationwide, up 16.9% compared to the same period in 2023, including:
- 4,139 enterprises temporarily suspending business activities, down 0.2% compared to the same period in 2023;
- 4,980 enterprises waiting for dissolution procedures, up 44.3% compared to the same period in 2023;
- 1,412 enterprises dissolved, terminating their existence, the same as in the same period in 2023.
